Android Dev Summit Extended



The inaugural Android Dev Summit was held on November 23-24 in Mountain View, California. Android Dev Summit was an event for Android developers to learn from technical sessions and network with the Android team. GDG Philippines will be organizing an Android Dev Summit Extended event on December 12, 2015 (08:00 AM to 05:00 PM). We will be watching the keynote and other videos from the Android Dev Summit. There will be short talks and hands-on codelabs afterwards. Bring your computers and Android devices. We will also be bringing a few phones (on Marshmallow) and smartwatches for the workshop and to test your apps.

Android Marshmallow Workshop

Android 6.0 Marshmallow has already started rolling out to devices. Have you updated your apps for it? We are a conducting a workshop on October 21 to help you run and test your apps on Android Marshallow. We're bringing some devices running on Android Marshmallow. Please bring your machines (with Android Studio or your IDE and your app/code that you will test).

The Android Marshmallow Workshop will be held at Bitspace Makati (6/F PDCP Bank Centre, Rufino cor. Leviste St., Salcedo Village, Makati City) on October 21 (7:00 to 9:00 in the evening)

GDG Campus Roadshow: UST



GDG Philippines went to University of Santo Tomas (UST) on May 2, 2015 for our next GDG Campus Roadshow. In cooperation with UST Society of Information Technology Enthusiasts (SITE), we organized a Polymer Workshop at UST Engineering Conference Hall.

AngularJS Code Camp

GDG Philippines, in cooperation with Devcon Philippines, Manila AngularJS Developer conducted an AngularJS Code Camp at co.lab xchange last April 25.

Wayne Manuel, GDG Philippines community manager, and Benj Tupas, GDG Bacolod Community Manager, facilitated the whole-day event.

Polymer Polytechnic Philippines

Polymer is a new kind of library, built atop Web Components, that enables developers to create their own encapsulated, custom HTML elements. With Polymer and Web Components, we can componentize the web! Polymer Polytechnic is an event series of in-person, community-run events to help developers learn Polymer. These events are run by local Google Developer Groups or other developer meetups all over the world.

Women Techmakers Manila 2015

Happy International Women's Day!

This year, GDG Philippines is organizing another Women Techmakers event on March 28, 2015. The goal of the event is to empower women to pursue their dreams and build tools that will change the world. There will be talks, code labs, and breakout sessions from different women speakers.

GDG Campus Roadshow: NU



GDG Philippines went to National University for our next GDG Campus Roadshow on August 9, 2014. In the morning, we had talks about GDG Philippines, Google Chrome, Google Apps, and Motivational/IT Career. We also had lightning talks of the topics for the afternoon workshops.

Android Wear Workshop

GDG Philippines organized our first Android Wear Workshop on August 2, 2014 in De La Salle University. Most of the attendees of the event came from provinces outside Manila (Antipolo, Rizal and Angeles, Pampanga).



We introduced Android Wear and demonstrated the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live. After that, the participants went on to do the workshop.

Chromecast/Google Cast Meetup



Learn more about Chromecast and Google Cast. Chromecast is a thumb-sized media streaming device that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV. Set it up with a simple mobile app, then send your favorite online shows, movies, music and more to your TV using your smartphone, tablet or laptop. Google Cast is a technology that enables multi-screen experiences and lets a user send and control content like video from a small computing device like a phone, tablet, or laptop to a large display device like a television.

Google Cloud Platform Days

GDG Philippines is organizing Google Cloud Platform Days this month. On May 17, participants can learn more about Google App Engine and Cloud Datastore while on May 24, the topics will be Google Compute Engine and Cloud SQL. There will be talks in the morning and workshop in the afternoon.

The events will be at Globe Corporate Showroom (Ground Floor, Valero Telepark, # 111, Valero Street, Makati City) [Map]. Slots are limited so if you are interested to join, signup on the registration forms you can find in the Google+ events page for each event.

GCDC Workshop Wednesdays




Google recently launched the Google Cloud Developer Challenge 2013. Google Cloud Developer Challenge (GCDC) is a "contest designed to motivate and reward entrants who develop applications that are based on Google's Cloud Platform that are original and relevant to the region in which they live".

Two of the winners last year are from the Philippines: Collabspot Notetaker and Events KIT. The deadline for the first round submissions is on November 21. Submission will be opened on October 22.

To prepare those who would like to join the competition, GDG Philippines is organizing a series of workshops called GCDC Workshop Wednesdays at (6:00-9:00 PM) at Globe Corporate Showroom (Ground Floor, Valero Telepark, # 111, Valero Street, Makati City) [Map]
