GDG Philippines in 2015

This year has been another busy year for GDG Philippines. We've had a lot of events and some of them are firsts of its kind.

Study Jams

For the first time, we organized a seven-week Android Fundamentals Study Jams on February-March 2015. This was part of the Google Developers Study Jams, free series of global, community-run, in-person study groups. The first jam session was presented in partnership with Udacity and will follow their Android Fundamentals curriculum.

Women Techmakers: Manila 2015

Our Women Techmakers Manila event this year was composed of 100% women speakers and around 80% women participants. We had more workshops this year (Python, Data Visualization, Hour of Code, Google Sites, and more).

Google I/O 2015 Extended Roadshow

Aside from the usual I/O Extended Viewing Party, this year, we brought the Google I/O experience to different cities. The Google I/O Extended Roadshow is a series of workshops and talks centered around the technologies announced during Google I/O 2015. We went to Pampanga (July 4), Manila (July 11), Batangas (July 18), Albay (July 25), Camarines Sur (July 26), and Cavite (August 1).

GDG DevFest Philippines 2015

GDG DevFest Philippines was composed of two days (for the first time) of hands-on workshops. Day 1 was focused on Android & VR (Android M, Firebase, Material Design, Cardboard) while Day 2 was focused on Web (Poymer, Firebase, Material Design, Gemma Kit, and more).

Android Masters

Android Masters is a collegiate inter-school Android app development challenge open to all universities and colleges across the Philippines. The main objective of the program is to encourage students to develop their creative app ideas and publish it to Google Play Store.

This is the first time we organized Android Masters. There were 72 entries in the Utility/Productivity and Games categories.

GDG HackFair Philippines 2015

GDG Philippines organized the first GDG HackFair in the Philippines this year. GDG HackFair Philippines 2015 is an interactive two-day event where App/Website/IoT projects were created using Google Technologies are given the opportunity to showcase their projects. Thirty teams were selected as exhibitors in the HackFair held on December 19-20.

In preparation for HackFair, we had a GDG Philippines HackTime on December 5. We had talks and workshops about Design, Arduino & Gemma Kit, Android Wear, Firebase, and Polymer.
