GDG Baguio and PSITE organize Android and Google Maps API v3 Workshop



To help equip and update students with android and Google technology, the Google Developer Group (GDG) Baguio +GDG Baguio in partnership with the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE) conducted a seminar-workshop on android programming and Google Maps API v3 at the University of Baguio on February 9, 2013.

+Marcial Jr. Pua, Software Engineer from Orange and Bronze Labs discussed the Basics of Android Development; he encouraged participants to build task applications that are beneficial to the modern technology and will serve as a tool for improvement. Meanwhile, GDG Baguio community manager +Reymart Canuel introduced the Google Maps API, a web service that lets you render and customize Google maps into your website.


A total of 62 participants from six different universities and an Information Technology company joined the workshop which includes University of Baguio, Saint Louis University, AMA Computer College – Baguio, Benguet State University, STI College Baguio, University of the Cordilleras and Texas Instrument.

“My knowledge about Android that I learned a year ago was refreshed and it definitely served a kick start to learn more about developing mobile apps” +Lea Malanum, participant from the University of Baguio said during an interview.
The said event is co-sponsored by Globe, Globelabs, Orange and Bronze labs and the University of Baguio.

Hack for Fun

Hack for Fun. Hack for Love.

On February 9-10, GDG Philippines is organizing a different kind of hackathon. Hack for Fun is the first hackathon of GDG Philippines for the year 2013! Join us as we hack fun apps and win special prizes. All you need to do is use any Google Technology and combine it with another API or platform. Register with your friends, colleagues, or special someone.

The hackathon will be from 9AM to 9PM of February 9 and 9AM-3PM on February 10 at Globe Corporat'e Showroom, Valero Telepark (111 Valero St., Salcedo Village Makati City). To signup for the event, register here. We will be sending confirmation email in the coming days.

Post-Event Update

More than twenty attendees participated in the event. They produced 7 apps. The winning apps are <3 by Alron Jan F. Lam, Lordd Michael N. Lazaro and Richmond Ivann C. Liclican; Half-eaten Food by Bryan Zarzuela and Nicole Antonette del Rosario (Second), and Yatta! by Ino Gamalindo (Third). Prizes include Android plushies or teddy bear, gift certificates, Android USB and Globe Tattoo sticks. We also gave special awards.
